Regrettably, the events took place in the context of an alarming rise in voter suppression across the nation. The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Right Act in 2013, followed by a dramatic rollback of voter rights and access. It was as if the stubborn injustices of history, and the discrimination rooted in collective memory were being reasserted.
