Tens of thousands gathered to cross the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge for the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Regrettably, the events took place in the context of an alarming rise in voter suppression across the nation. The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Right Act in 2013, followed by a dramatic rollback of voter rights and access. It was as if the stubborn injustices of history, and the discrimination rooted in collective memory were being reasserted.
